Bookmarking a web page on your Android device so that it looks and feels like an app is fairly simple. The steps illustrated below show a phone/handheld device, but the process is essentially the same on a tablet. (Some details may vary on some devices, but most should follow those outlined here.)
Open the Mobile WebsiteOpen the Android web browser on your device and go to the website www.horizonhomesdfw.com. If your device is a tablet, you should see the full version instead of the mobile version of the site, but the steps to "make it an app" are essentially the same. Alternatively, if you have a QR code reader installed, you may scan the QR code to the right and then open the site in the Android web browser. Note that some QR code readers may give you the option of viewing the site within the QR code app. Please choose the Android web browser (The following steps are written from that perspective). | ![]() |
Select a Home PageNavigate to the page on our site that you prefer to use as your home page; the one you want to appear first when you tap the app bookmark on your home screen. For most this will be the homepage, but perhaps you always go to a specific community. It's your choice, and you can set up more than one by repeating this process with different pages.
Add the BookmarkOnce you have selected your preferred home page, tap your device's menu button, usually just below the bottom of the screen. (Not pictured.) Now, tap the "Bookmarks" button. (Illustrated to the right with an orange box.) Note: there are other ways to get to the bookmarks, and any of them should work equally.
Add the Bookmark (cont.)Next, tap the "Add" bookmark square. (Illustrated to the right with a number 1.) This will add the bookmark to the next available bookmark square. (Illustrated to the right with a number 2.)
Name/Add the Bookmark to your Home screenOnce the bookmark has been created, touch it and hold (this is sometimes called a "long tap"). A menu of options should appear. The title just below the bookmark is the one that will be used on the home screen. If you prefer a different title, tap the "Edit bookmark" button (Just above the orange box in the illustration to the right), and you will be able to change it (not shown) and then return to the bookmark's menu (illustrated to the right). Please note that once added to the home screen, the title can only be changed by returning to (or re-creating) the bookmark, and re-adding it to the home screen. Tap "Add shortcut to Home". (Illustrated to the right with an orange box.) At this point, you can delete or modify the browser's bookmark without affecting the one that has now been added to your home screen.
Use the BookmarkYour app bookmark to the Highland website should now be ready to use! Just tap it as you would any other app. If the customized button icon doesn't appear right away, it's OK. Once you use it to access the website, your device should request the custom icon at that time and display it. |
